Can you take an industrial
product and reposition it into the consumer market? Yes, we can do that. We
started by identifying the potential target markets and developed a strategy
for introduction. As part of our early research we met a buyer for a major
retail chain that was willing to provide input on our work for Desco. The
insights he provided proved valuable. We needed to expand from Desco being
a one-product company, so we created a half-size "HandyMat" for smaller household
projects. Next, our structural people designed a cost-effective corrugated
wrap that could hold the product and withstand shipment. We added bright graphics
using opaque white on kraft and overprinting it with yellow. Side panels illustrated
recommended usage. Overall the look was tough and durable, just like the product.
